Ghana faces a significant shortage of eye care professionals and uneven access to services, especially in rural areas. Common eye conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and uncorrected refractive errors are prevalent, yet often go untreated due to cost, lack of awareness, or limited infrastructure. Children’s vision needs are underserved, and public education on eye health remains low.

Great things happen when local partners come together to strengthen eye care. Through our collaboration with St. Thomas Eye Hospital, CharityVision provides medical supplies and surgical consumables so local doctors can continue caring for patients. With the growing need for affordable eye care, we’re also working together to build an eye clinic in Takoradi.
We support UTSA’s annual September eye camp with equipment, supplies, and glasses, and contribute to the University of Optometry in Kumasi’s resident training program. By equipping hospitals, supporting training, and helping local doctors serve their communities, we’re helping Ghana build stronger eye care from within.

Current Projects

Training Local Eye Care Professionals

CharityVision’s model supports and encourages medical professionals to pursue higher education and training. We partner with the University of Optometry in Kumasi by providing residents with hands-on experience at our eye screening outreaches.
Sending Medical Supplies & Equipment

With recent medical supply donations to the St. Thomas Eye Hospital, partner doctors can serve more social patients in their clinics. We are also assembling a medical equipment container to provide our partners with state-of-the-art tools, speeding up procedures and improving the effectiveness of their work.
Annual Eye Exam Outreach

CharityVision supports UTSA’s annual September eye camp with equipment, medical supplies, and glasses. We are currently looking to support more amazing organizations in their eye care efforts.
Eye Clinic Project

With the growing need for affordable eye care, CharityVision is also working together with St. Thomas Eye Hospital to build an eye clinic in Takoradi. Our goal is to build a sustainable eye care program with a long-lasting impact in the community.

A Brighter Future Through Clearer Vision

Wamamili Michael is a 15-year-old student at Bubutu Primary School. Michael was diagnosed with very high myopic astigmatism in both eyes. This made it extremely difficult for him to succeed at school. Thanks to the screening and support from our program, Michael can now see. He shared that he’s determined to improve his grades in the final exams—and with his new glasses, he finally has a clear path forward.
