Zambia 's Eye care services are concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural populations with little or no access. Many districts lack even a single qualified ophthalmologist or optometrist.
Furthermore, while Zambia has four main hospitals, all well-equipped, there is a critical shortage of ophthalmologists—despite training programs, the number of graduates is insufficient to meet demand. Cataract surgery is covered by social insurance, but there is often no available surgeon.

Continue to assist with much needed consumables and find the local doctors who have a heart to serve.
We work directly with the Ministry of Health to provide Cataract surgery supplies for the doctors who serve the underserved in their communities. We recently sent supplies to help 1,000 patients which were badly needed due to the shortage of those consumables for their ministry doctors and hospitals. They have recently requested to help with a portable microscope and other outreach equipment. We will soon be visiting Zambia.

Cataract Kit Donations
In many government hospitals, patients must purchase their own materials, costing $60-$75—an impossible amount for the world’s poorest. Dr. Kalinaki received 500 surgical kits to bless the lives of thousands of low-income individuals in his community.

New Equipment for Partners
CharityVision takes care of its partners! We donated an eye care tonometer to the Mbarara Clinic. This allows them to measure the pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure) during the outreaches.

Uganda's First SightBuddies
The Sibuse Primary School welcomed our SightBuddies program, in partnership with the GAF Eye Health Foundation, to assist 170 children! Despite having limited resources and a small team, they identified cases of refractive errors, allergies, and cataracts, and referred students for further care.

A Brighter Future Through Clearer Vision
Wamamili Michael is a 15-year-old student at Bubutu Primary School. Michael was diagnosed with very high myopic astigmatism in both eyes. This made it extremely difficult for him to succeed at school. Thanks to the screening and support from our program, Michael can now see. He shared that he’s determined to improve his grades in the final exams—and with his new glasses, he finally has a clear path forward.
