Colombia

  • The high poverty rate in Colombia means many patients risk permanent blindness while waiting for treatment at public hospitals. Additionally, 40% of children in underserved areas have never had an eye exam, and many cannot afford glasses. This leads to children dropping out of school to work. Your initiative is crucial in providing affordable vision care and helping break the cycle of poverty by enabling children to stay in school.

  • We support private local doctors with cataract supplies to keep costs low and help those who have been on waiting lists for several years for their cataract surgeries from government hospitals. We also make a significant impact by providing vision care for Colombian children by involving optician residents and partnering with schools, governments, hospitals, doctors, and strategic partners. Screening over 25,000 children annually shows the scale of our efforts. With just $10, donors can give a child the gift of sight through affordable glasses.
