OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM

With 17,000 islands and a population of 274 million, Indonesia faces a significant challenge in addressing vision impairments. Shockingly, 1 in 4 children in the country have a vision impairment, but only 12% wear glasses. Limited accessibility and high costs hinder the provision of adequate eye care. Over 10% of the impoverished population further exacerbates the challenge of reaching those in need and restoring sight.

CharityVision partners with volunteers and community leaders in remote areas of Indonesia, working across seven zones in western and central Java. With monthly screenings of 12.000 children, we aim to restore sight and provide eyeglasses to approximately 10-12% of them. As resources allow, we aspire to expand our program to more cities.

Current Projects

SightBuddies School Program

With 6.6 million children lacking eye care access, CharityVision Indonesia offers children free eye exams and glasses through our SightBuddies School Screening Program. In return, every patient makes a small contribution to keep helping other children.
Thanks to partners, it only costs $10 for a child to receive a pair of glasses. We need more donations to reach even more children.
Teacher Education & Eye Disease Awareness

Many parents and educators remain unaware of eye diseases. CharityVision Indonesia visits schools to educate both groups about myopia (Nearsightedness). These visits are followed by eye exams for the students and the provision of subsidized eyeglasses.
Minivans Expanding SightBuddies to New Regions

While motorcycles serve our Indonesia team well during school screenings, our expansion into Bogor demanded a safer, rain-ready solution. Thanks to local generosity, we now navigate Bogor roads in a van, amplifying our SightBuddies program's reach for child eye screenings. Our goal is to have 5 minivans in the next 2 years.
Eye Screenings in Islamic Schools

This Islamic boarding school is in a remote village without eye screening facilities. The school values the CharityVision program and requests it be held regularly, once a year.

Sports Are Fun When You See The Ball

Setiawan, 9, struggled with blurry vision, making soccer and school challenging. He couldn’t focus on the ball or read in class. However, with new glasses and the right prescription, he can’t wait to play soccer during recess and read in class. He says he’s one step closer to becoming a famous soccer player!
No More Broken Frames

Yafi, 10, proudly wears his broken glasses as he dreams of becoming a teacher and entrepreneur. With a -3.50 prescription, he loves to draw despite the challenge. His hardworking parents support him, and with YAMI’s help, new glasses will bring his vision—and dreams—into focus.

Despite severe vision impairment and financial constraints, 15-year-old Ahmad Ramadhan persevered in school using alternative methods. CharityVision's visit brought joy when an eye exam revealed his severe myopia, and he was gifted with much-needed glasses. This experience taught him there is no shame in asking for support. With his new glasses, he can focus on a bright future.
Nadia Wants To Be a Doctor

Eleven-year-old Nadia dreams of becoming a doctor but recently struggled to read due to poor vision. With her mother passing away and her father selling fish, finances were tight, making an eye exam a low priority. Thanks to CharityVision's school screening and our donor's support, Nadia received glasses and can now read clearly again. Her beaming smile is a testament to the profound impact of your generosity.

Outreach in Bogor

Last month, CharityVision conducted the first-ever eye exam at the 3rd State Elementary School in Bogor. This initiative had a warm welcome, as no similar program had been offered by any other organizations before.
