Tanzania

Tanzania has very few ophthalmologists and extremely limited access to eye care. Most of the blind or visually impaired never receive treatment. Those who do must purchase their own surgical supplies, which only 30% of the population can afford.

CharityVision owns eye hospitals in Dodoma, Kahama and partners with public hospitals to provide charitable care to individuals who cannot afford treatment. However, we need additional surgical packs for our hospitals, as well as funds to initiate a screening and treatment program for patients in rural villages.

Sending Equipment

CharityVision’s warehouse plays a crucial role in the fight against blindness by serving as the central hub for acquiring, sorting, and shipping eyeglass frames and lenses to Tanzania. Thanks to generous donations from optical companies and supporters, our warehouse team meticulously inspects, organizes, and packages thousands of frames and lenses to distribute to our Tanzania partners.
Outreaches/Eye Screenings

In 2025, we are organizing outreach programs in both urban centers and remote communities to help individuals regain independence, enhance their quality of life, and contribute more fully to their families and society. Through sustainable partnerships and locally led initiatives, CharityVision is committed to strengthening eye care in Tanzania, ensuring a lasting impact.
SightBuddies: School Screening Program

The SightBuddies will restart in April 2025 in collaboration with Essilor, focusing on the Bahi district. Each school screening costs approximately $350, which includes transportation and meals. Our partners generously volunteer their time and talent to ensure the sustainability of this program.

Valentine's Project

Our ‘Onyesha Upendo’ project (Show Love in Swahili) is back at the Dodoma Clinic. In collaboration with the CVT Eye Clinic, we are receiving as many people as possible in this 14-day event.

Breaking Barriers and Going to School!

Despite her family's opposition to attending school, Rehema Hassan enrolled anyway and quickly rose to the top of her class. Recently, her poor vision caused her to struggle in her studies and lose confidence. Luckily, our Tanzania team provided a free eye screening at her school and discovered she has very high myopia.
With new glasses, Rehema is thrilled to see clearly and excel in high school again!
Yustina Can See Her Children!

Yustina George, a 27-year-old mother of seven, was slowly losing her sight until life went completely black just before delivering her last child.
That is when her husband left her and the kids. After three years of fear and uncertainty, she found hope at a free screening! Despite being told her condition couldn’t be treated, a successful surgery by Dr. Olando at CVT Specialized Eye Clinic restored her vision. Now, Yustina is overjoyed seeing her children, especially her youngest for the first time. Donors like you changed her life, and of course, she is forever grateful.
A Doctor Ready To Serve!

Dr. Rajabu Kisonga, our new surgeon in Kahama, Tanzania, is the only ophthalmologist within a three-hour drive, bringing life-changing eye care to the region. For the first time, this community will have a dedicated ophthalmologist year-round to help restore sight to those in need.
How Does Tanzania Celebrates Valentine's Day?

Our team in Tanzania expressed their affection for the community by organizing a 14-day event named 'Onyesha Upendo' ('Show Love' in Swahili). During this event, they helped 479 patients, donated 228 glasses, and conducted 32 cataract surgeries. Love sees clearly!
